I was recently a guest on Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins. The topic of conversation was “the role of the protester, what they plan to do during the DNC, about First Amendment Rights and how the city plans to operate to respect everyone’s rights and still have a successful convention.”
Guests:
Bob Hagemann – City Attorney for the City of Charlotte
Sara Flounders – Co-director of the International Action Center. She organizes large national demonstrations and is in town this week to work with Charlotte protesters planning for the DNC.
Michael Zytkow – Member of Occupy Charlotte and the Coalition to March on Wall Street South.
Steve Newborn- Reporter at WUSF in Tampa (the public radio station in Tampa)
It was nice to have an open platform in which to discuss issues that have in many ways been neglected.
You can listen to the conversation here. I encourage everyone to have a listen.
WFAE (90.7) recently hosted a community forum entitled “Politics in the Streets.” Panelists and audience members discussed First Amendment freedoms and related issues surrounding the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
The event was held at the Uptown Mint Muesum with the following individuals serving on the panel:
Bob Hagemann, Charlotte City Attorney
Ken Davies, attorney for Occupy Charlotte
Mark Newbold, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department
There was a strong showing from the local activist community. The forum can be heard here.
