Free & Equal Presidential Debate (October 23, 2012)

The Republicrats and Demopublicans have once again prevented alternative party candidates from participating in the Presidential debates and discussing issues that have been purposefully neglected.

Tonight will be a historic Presidential debate including Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode, and Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson. The debate was organized by Free and Equal Elections Foundation and will be moderated by Larry King.

The debate will be broadcast live at 9pm EST at www.freeandequal.org/live, ORA.tv, RT, Al Jazeera, and Link TV.

The work of Annabel Manning concentrates on contemporary political and social issues. The current theme running through her work is her reaction to people around her who are being marginalized by this country for different reasons. As Manning interacts with these various people in various settings (e.g., prisons, schools, the streets), she feels the need to express visually, as a demonstrator and an artist, how they are invisible and being denied basic human rights. On view will be a series of photographs of Occupy Charlotte, using blur and movement to explore the pathos and indeterminacy of the situation.

Air Occupy Radio Show – RNC, DNC, and Protesters’ Rights

A radio show called Air Occupy recently broadcast a program entitled “RNC, DNC, and Protesters’ Rights.” Abi Hassen, Mass Defense Coordinator for the National Lawyers Guild discussed legal issues surrounding both conventions. Members of Occupy Tampa described preparations for the RNC. I spoke about plans for the DNC on behalf of the Coalition to March on Wall Street South. Justice for Charlotte City Workers

Since Charlotte won the bid to host the DNC, I have heard on countless occasions many of our local politicians and corporate heads boast about how clean our city is, seemingly taking credit. But I have yet to see any of them show their appreciation to the city workers who truly keep our city clean and running smoothly on a daily basis. Instead, city workers have faced unfair working conditions and the denial of their basic rights as workers.

Greenpeace Airship Occupies the Skies

Activism took to the skies of Charlotte this morning, when Greenpeace launched their airship at Veterans Park. The airship is part of an ongoing effort to highlight Duke Energy’s use of dirty energy.

Attached to each side of the airship were banners reading “Don’t Raise Rates for Dirty Energy,” and “Cleaner is Cheaper.” Activists on the ground also laid out a message reading “We want affordable rates & clean air. Be a leader Duke.” Continue reading →
