Occupy Charlotte, Then and Now
Photos, Projections, Participatory Tents, and “Freedom Cage” By Annabel Manning
ROSS GALLERY (in the Overcash Building at Central Piedmont Community College, Kings Drive & Elizabeth Ave)
August 20 - October 14, 2012
**Reception Thursday, August 30, 6 – 8pm**
The work of Annabel Manning concentrates on contemporary political and social issues. The current theme running through her work is her reaction to people around her who are being marginalized by this country for different reasons. As Manning interacts with these various people in various settings (e.g., prisons, schools, the streets), she feels the need to express visually, as a demonstrator and an artist, how they are invisible and being denied basic human rights. On view will be a series of photographs of Occupy Charlotte, using blur and movement to explore the pathos and indeterminacy of the situation.
