DNC Security Plan Released

DNC 2012: Extraordinary Event Map

The DNC 2012 Security Plan was released this morning, and frankly it’s worse than I imagined. I will post a more comprehensive piece soon, but I wanted to release some of the maps and information now.

The Extraordinary Event zone swallows most parts of uptown Charlotte and even spreads outside the I-277 loop. The police will have increased powers in this zone as called for by the so-called DNC ordinances. The period of the extraordinary event has been extended as well, from September 1st through the 6th.

DNC 2004: Free Speech Zone

The Free Speech Zone is located right next to the highway (I-277) in an empty field beside Caldwell Street which will have restricted access during the DNC. No word yet on what this zone will look like. Past free speech zones have been caged-off areas surrounded by concrete and barbed wire like the one pictured from the 2004 DNC in Boston.

Anyone needing to access businesses and residences within the security zone will need to go through designated vehicle and security checkpoints.

Please comment and let me know what you think! More to come!

  1. This is asking for a return to Chicago ’68. I see no other way to deal with this muzzling of free speech than an uprising.
